Arsenal second majority shareholder, Alisher Usmanov has agreed to sell his shares to Stan Kroenke in deal worth about £1.8 billion according to various media outlets.
Kroenke is currently Arsenal’s majority owner with a 67.09% stake, while Usmanov has a 30.4 per cent share but has never had a seat on the board or any say in the running of the club.
Where does Usmanov and Everton fit in to this ?
It’s well know that Moshiri has close links with Usmanov through the years and still very good friends as well as business partners. More came to light when the billionaire’s holding company, USM entered into a 5 year deal to the naming rights of Evertons training complex, Finch Farm for a reported fee of around £12 million.
Panorama also investigated the Russian back in November 2017, with the BBC show looking into the “Paradise Papers” which claimed to contain information of Usmanov funding Moshiri’s move for the Blues.
The investigation claimed that the original stake in Arsenal was in fact a “gift” from Usmanov, which they suggest raises the question that the Russian’s money is now in Everton.
With Usmanov ready to sell up at Arsenal, speculation is almost sure to arise once more about a potential switch to Everton…
